Our Father, who art in Heaven

"Yahweh God shaped man from the soil of the ground and blew the breath of life into his nostrils, and man became a living being."

(Genesis 2:7)

Imagine God the father shaping you from the soil of the ground. Then visualise God blowing the breath of life into your nostrils. His breath is living in you. Because of God, you have become a living being. God has loved each and every one of us into being. He has made us into His own image and likeness.

"How countless are your works, Yahweh God, all of them made so wisely! The earth is full of your creatures." (Ps.104:24).

This month our prayer is one of love and thanksgiving to Our Father in heaven. God the Father is not my Father alone, He is Our Father, a Father to all; a Father who made all and who loves all. God our heavenly Father desires that we do not worry. He takes care of our needs with His Divine Providence. (Mt.6: 29-34) We are precious in God's sight: "Why, every hair on your head has been counted...Your Father knows what you need before you ask Him." (Mt. 6:8).

Our Father does not like to see us turning away from Him or doing bad things to each other, but He never stops loving us and wanting what is good for us. (Acts 22:4).

Forgiveness and love are the language of God. We can run like a child into our Father's loving arms, surrender our will to Him, live in His peace and rejoice in Him. It is never too late to stop what you are doing, if it is wrong. If it means saving only one life or putting down your arms, even after a life-time of 'bad things', God will still love you, and forgive you. (Lk.15:11-32).

Having such a wonderful Father should fill us with joy, should make us cry out with songs of heartfelt praise and thanksgiving. Jesus blesses God the Father in prayer. (Mt.11:29) and so too must we, His creation, His children. "I will bless Yahweh at all times, His praise continually on my lips. I will praise Yahweh from my heart, let the humble hear and rejoice. (Ps. 34:1,2). "Give thanks to Yahweh for He is God, for His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of Gods, for his faithful love endures for ever." Our Father loves us now and beyond the grave. He desires that we will always be with him. It is only through Jesus Christ that we come to know the Father. Without knowing Jesus there is no knowing our Father. (Jn. 1:17, 5:19-28).

God's name is to be hallowed. "Our Father in heaven, may your name be held holy." (Mt.6:9). "Not to us Yahweh, not to us, but to your name give the glory." (Ps.115:1).

"Yahweh our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the world! (Ps.8:1). The Psalms highlight for us the holiness of God's name and yet at times we treat it with such disrespect. We wound Our Father with evil tongues, we desecrate His holy name with foulest words. "Words of thanksgiving and cursing pour out from the same mouth. My brothers, this should not happen." (James 2:10). Jesus blesses God the Father in prayer, we too this month bless Our Father in Heaven, we praise and bless His holy name, We thank Him for He is God and His love lasts forever. In the words of the Psalmist we pray

"Glory to Yahweh forever. Bless Yahweh my soul." (Ps. 104:31,35).
